Who Made the List? Top 2016 Caribbean Startup Programs

CaribbeanStartups.com launched the region’s first digital accelerator earlier this year and released the final list of companies selected for the summer session. 105 companies were selected, five of which were featured in the Guardian. The cohort came from 16+ countries and were graduates of 34 unique startup development programs in the Caribbean. Here are some quick stats:

The top 3 countries represented in this applicant pool was:

  1. Trinidad w/ 40
  2. Haiti w/ 18
  3. Jamaica w/ 13

The vast majority of the companies were early stage, founding the ventures within the past 3 years.

  • 2016- 28 companies
  • 2015-29 companies
  • 2014-15 companies

When asked what their funding needs were, 45% stated that they needed less than $50k and 54% made ask amounts between $50k-$20M. Below is a graph on the top 3 topics of most interest to Caribbean entrepreneurs. Funding, customer acquisition and marketing was the most requested topics for this year’s summer class.
